This was a travel day ...
Roma to Napoli to Sorrento!

I was fairly sad to leave Rome's blue skies and our wonderful apartment. It was strange to think we may never make it back to Rome ... or for a while at least!
We had a final espresso out in the sunshine at our local cafe.

We then trained to Napoli and enjoyed the views out the window and caught up on some journalling and reading.

Once in Napoli we caught a cab to the ferry and then a short ferry ride later we were in Sorrento. Strangely enough one of the nicest panini's we had was a prosciutto and mozerella one from the dodgy looking cafe at the ferry station. Got our vote!

Once we were in Sorrento we jumped in another cab (travel days were always long and a bit tiring ...)  and made our way up the hill. We'd decided to stay in a hotel for this leg rather than an airbnb apartment and it as actually a really good decision. They upgraded us and the above two photos were the views over the hills from our room. Bliss! An enormous bed and two big windows opening up looking out to Capri.
Before we left we watched the movie A Trip to Italy ... and it had us laughing all through Sorrento.

After we had checked in and changed clothes we headed out again .. and noticed a door at the end of our corridor. It opened up on to the roof and revealed such an amazing view over Sorrento! I could have stayed there for so long.

We walked down into town .. such a hill ... down these cobblestone alleyways and being passed by cars and scooters .. and scooter truck things ...

The day was Good Friday and Sorrento celebrate it with a procession through the town.
The white procession happens at 3.00am and symbolises Mary going to look for Jesus. The night time comes and it's the black procession, symbolising when Mary learns of Jesus's death.
It was incredible haunting .... hundreds of people lined the streets in silence, balconies had candle flickering and other than that all power was out. There was a brass band that played the same song on repeat and men/boys dressed in black hoods and clothes walked the streets with incense and lanterns.
We watched for a few hours and then went to find some dinner and an Irish pub! I tried my first sip of Sorrento's limoncello and we enjoyed the ruckus of the pub for a while.
